Teacher-made mini-poems are more relevant for over-all development of kids

The conventional rhymes written by literary figures are mere show off of adults in language arts. They have a high word-load as well cognitive-load on kids. Through children can sing through imitation because of the popularized ear-appeal of the conventional rhymes despite their meaninglessness for the kids.

Researchers have shown that the conventional rhymes' pedagogical irrelevance and suggested the teacher-made mini-poems can be more relevant which sung as clap rhymes, tap rhymes, gesture rhymes and phonological awareness rhymes. Mini-poems have been found to encourage kid to create their poems and put them in role of knowledge constructors.

The research suggests that mini-poems in which each line has a two or three word phrases are good for inclusion and literacy development of all children. The poem should have the sight-vocabulary exercises, board game activities, successive drawing exercises and matching exercises. The teachers must develop such mini-poem activity books for children in the age-group 3-5 years. In short, poems for kids should become teaching tools for developing multiple intelligences.

Here is an example of Hindi mini-poem by me for teacher and care-giver motivation.

चूहा: सूक्ष्म कविता

चूहा आता

पूंछ हिलाता

कुतर-कुतर कर

चींजे  खाता

***

उसे भगाते

तो छुप जाता

देख के बिल्ली

वह डर जाता
