Good on-line teaching requires high level of content mastery, interactive communication skills and illustrative skills on the part of teachers. Likewise, students should have listening-with-comprehension skills and picture/visual reading skills to make best use of on-line learning. These are the pre-conditions for on-line instruction to be reasonable for which teachers and students require readiness training and practice to spontaneously apply these skills to benefit from on-line instruction.
Here, the inset collage shows that on-line book teaching is being done by the school teacher in which student is being asked to look into book while teachers reads the lines from the book and tries to explains the things with some typical 'empty words and phrases' such as okay, right, hmm, do you understand that, remember it, well, etc. Along with the laptop and the book, the students is being asked to keep a mobile phone for messages and assignments on WhatsApp.
"This kind of on-line teaching is making children disinterested in studies in a situation which is already marred by social isolation and out-door activities of students. When a new thing is introduced without readiness both on the part of teachers and students, it becomes a costly facile activity. It leads to mis-education that makes students cognitively sluggish and dull," said a retired educator in Jaipur.
