Teachers to create own poems for phonics method and voice training for school beginners: An Example


Rhymes and poems are great vocabulary builders and help in spoken language learning by developing listening and speaking skills. However, for phonics method of learning English by children whose home language is different, teachers have to create their own poems to be echo-recited with phonic awareness and correct pronunciation right from the beginning.


Since poems have a rhythmic pattern and repetitions, beginners find easy to imitate and remember the new words and sounds. Also, phonic method which is being promoted by International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) system, stresses upon phonic awareness, voice training and speech correction in the tender formative years of the learners.


Here, is an example of poem which clinically tried for learners whose mother tongue was Hindi.


This blogger created poem to pick up first six words of IPA goes as follows.


Alpha says Bravo! Bravo!

And Charlie claps his hands

Delta echoes the sound

And the fox plays the band

~*~

Alpha-Bravo-Charlie

Delta-Echo-Foxtrot

All of them dance

The dance of foxtrot


The words and their initial sounds can be reinforced through flash cards, board games, letter search puzzles and matching exercises
