The 70th Republic Day of India: Haiku and limerick

The Republic Day is round the corner. It is the time to revisit the concepts of true democracy and republic.

India is going to celebrate its 70th Republic Day on Saturday, January 26.

Here, I have tried to describe democracy and republic through language arts of haiku and limerick.

HAIKU

Social equity

Public voice in policies -

True democracy

Mix and strike balance

between liberty, equity -

True democracy

Rationality

Logic, scientific temper

True democracy

Work to free public

From dogmas, divisions and fears -

True democracy

Failed democracy

Result of bad governance

Privatization

LIMERICK

Republic Day meant to remind constitutional rights and responsibilities

Reaffirm adherence to laws to make people sovereign to do their duties

Rulers turned it into day of the show off of military might

And sell off their own brand of patriotism, both day and night

Those who question rulers are labelled derogatory and given bad publicity
