The Commonwealth Awards-2020 instituted by Commonwealth Association of Science Mathematics and Technology Educators[1] (CASTME) and sponsored by Findel International Education Resources and Philip Harris have gone to Indian, Sri Lankan and Nigerian STEM educators this year for their innovative projects in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education.
The three CASTME Awards, one for educational project and two for community projects in STEM education, have been anounced and information updated on the website of the the award organizers, informed Bala Chandra - a CASTME trustee. Dr Lalit Kishore of India working at Disha Foundation in Jaipur has been selected as one of the awardees for his innovative middle school level integrative science project with readily available material in the community.
The citations for awards winners will be formally made public at the Association of Science Education to be held in the United Kingdom in January 2021.
The information about the three winners is as follows.
The Findel CASTME Education Award for the entry "Laboratory and Science Museum" submitted by Sarath Premawardana of Panadura (Sri Lanka)
The Findel CASTME Community Project Award-1 for "Popularising Science and Technology among Children for Self-reliance" submitted by Director- Professor Ibiyinka Ogunlade of Ekita State University, Ado-Ekiti (Nigeria)
The Findel CASTME Community Project Award-2 for "Middle School Science to Spin, Swirl and Sway for Self-Development of Science Educator as Action Researcher and Learner-Teacher" submitted by Dr Lalit Kishore, Disha Foundation, Jaipur (India)
The reports of the innovations had the outline the aims and objectives of the project, its form, target audience, location, organizers and means of delivery which did not exceed 10,000 words with substantial evidence of teaching, learning methods or other educational work.
For the entries of CASTME Awards of 2021 ,electronic submission will be acceptable, but emails must not have more than 3 attachments. “It is strongly recommended that photos are used to illustrate work (with) reference to sources of information or illustrations such as published papers, journals, magazines and books as well as organisations such as resources centres, science centres, libraries and museums should be made where applicable," advises the CASTME for the submissions made on-line for present times.
