Tips for smoke photography with burning incense sticks in a closed space

Smoke coming out small burning or smoldering things - whose size, shape and intensity change fast - can be a good subject for photography.


But, one needs to learn the art of photographing smoke in a closed room with something lighted up and giving smoke.


With a few tips one can take interesting pictures of smoke in a room. In smoke photography, subject is never under control provides a trialing occasion for creativity. The smoke patterns fascinating provide a situation of photo-art which is abstract in nature.



Set the camera on macro mode and use a tripod stand of rest it on something solid to provide a firm perch. Light up a few incense sticks in room with closed windows and curtain drawn to make it a dark of semi-dark room. Make sure that burning incense sticks on a stand and give out white smoke.


Provide a black or dark background behind the incense sticks using a sheet or painted wooden board. Using a table lamp or LED torch light up the smoke.


The light should fall on the tips of the incense sticks. Focus on the tips of the incense sticks.

Set the camera at f 8.0 and shutter speed at 1/200, focus it on the tips and click. Take a number of shots to retain the ones with good shapes and patterns of the smoke.
