Understanding the much talked about concept and precept of ‘inclusion’

Inclusion has become a ‘catch word’ and people are talking for inclusive education, inclusive society, and inclusive development these days.


In spirituality, inclusion is meant to be self-realized by perceiving the same soul in all and living with a spontaneous empathy. The inset video in the form of a floor art / rangoli is used to symbolize the spiritual value of inclusion.


We need understand understand the concept and precept of inclusion as a human value and as a component of social pedagogy through reflecting on the ABCs of ‘inclusion’

A: Action of being a member of a group with equity

B: Being a integral part of a structure or system

C: Care and concern for equal rights of all to be respected and appreciated as valuable members of a community or group for development

D: Diverse yet all-embracing psycho-social ideology

E: Engaging all by acceptance and accommodation including individuals with special needs and securing differentiated opportunities for them within the same set-up
