Use conventional writing utensils for sensory and physical experiences for children with dysgraphia

Working with a dysgraphic child on one-on-one basis, it was found that much of sensory, grasps, fine motor, awareness, attentiveness and coordination activities can be intergated with literacy and cognitive skills using common writing utensils.

For early multi-sensory and multi-modal transaction of activities with a dysgraphic child, as shown in the pics on the page, the following materials were used to teach the letters of the name of the child "VIKAS".

-slate
-chalk stick
-sketch pens

The protocol for conduct of activity for recognition of the letter V (V for VIKAS was chosen for self-awareness).

-Draw letter V with modelling approach and reinforce connect between text and sound symbols
-Demonstrate placing of sketch pens on two lines of V and reinforce text and sound symbols
-Do assisted activity to give a feel for pinch grasp and movement for placement of the sketch pens one by one
-Let the child do the activity
-Do corrective feedback and make the child do the supervised practice
