ABCs of disciplinary approaches to academic education
Read carefully and recite the following ABC verse to give a sense various academic education approaches.
A: Academic discipline is a syllabus or content based knowledge area (intra-disciplinary) that is taught and researched
B: Breaking boundaries between two or more academic disciplines to create a new subject areas and their processes such as bio-physics, bio-chemistry, bio-technology
C: Cross-disciplinary knowledge representing more than one academic disciplines blended together or making one discipline cross-cutting another; also called interdisciplinary knowledge or viewing one academic discipline from the point view of another
D: Multidisciplinary knowledge drawing relevant knowledge or overlapping knowledge or realistic synthesis of approaches from three or more different academic disciplines within their boundaries to harmonize links between disciplines as a coherent whole that such as 'education therapy'
E: Evolving and forging a unity of intellectual or philosophical frameworks beyond the disciplinary perspectives such as individualized education and inclusive education as trans-disciplinarity
Individualized specialty courses, inclusive education and education of children with special needs require trans-disciplinary approach so as move towards evolving individualized learning as per the diagnosed needs, it is being suggested.
