World Bicycle Day, observed on June 3 each year, is held to raise the awareness about the benefits of using a bicycle for local travel for being a 'simple, affordable, clean and environmentally fit sustainable means of transportation,' as the UN holds out.

School principal experiments with teaching English through curriculum centered around bicycle
Lalit Kishore
Dr Lalit Kishore (1986-87), the founder Principal of JNV, Khunga Kothi, Jind, experimented with teaching English in grade six. The Alphabet teaching and vocabulary building was done through parts of the bicycle, poems on bicycle , descriptive lesson on bicycle as well cycle sports.
The supplementary curricular experiment was carried out as one-month as 30-hour course with 14 lessons. The intervention was taken up after six-month of teaching English from the prescribed textbook.
