World Sleep Day, celebrated since 2006, will take place on March 13, 2026, with the goal of raising awareness about the crucial role of healthy sleep and the impact of sleep disorders on society. This year's theme is "Sleep Well, Live Better," highlighting that 'quality sleep is essential for physical health, mental clarity, and overall well-being.' It further emphasizes that sleep is not a luxury but a biological necessity, just like nutrition and exercise.
The main objective of this observance is to encourage the prevention and management of sleep disorders such as insomnia and sleep apnea, which affect nearly 45% of the global population.
To honor World Sleep Day, health professionals suggest incorporating the following habits, as recommended by Google AI:
Maintain a Schedule: Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, including weekends.
Limit Blue Light Exposure: Steer clear of screens (phones, tablets, TVs) for at least one hour before bedtime.
Be Mindful of Your Intake: Refrain from caffeine for 6 hours and heavy meals or alcohol for 4 hours prior to sleep.
Enhance Your Environment: Ensure your bedroom is dark, quiet, well-ventilated, and kept at a cool temperature.
Take Power Naps: A brief nap of 10–20 minutes in the early afternoon can help restore alertness without leading to grogginess.
