Today, September 1, is the birth anniversary of noted Hindi poet Dushyant Kumar (1933 – 1975) whose poetry is recited by people engaged in social and collective welfare.
I remember, during my associations with Lok jumbish Project in Rajasthan in the last decade of 20th centurry, the educational functionaries used to sing his poem "Ho Gayi hai Peer Parvat Si" very often for social transformation.
Many other activists and social reformers during their movements would collectively sing the poem to energize people with the inspiring line 'lines "Sirf hungaama khada karna mera maqsad nahin, saari koshish hai, ki yeh soorat badalni chahiye".
Dushyant Kumar was not only just a poet, but socially sensitive humanist who wrote dramas and songs. He also wrote in Urdu and his ghazals have a rare touch of human sensibilities for self-transformation and social transformation.
I personally like his lines: आज सड़कों पर लिखे हैं सैकड़ों नारे न देख, / घ्रर अंधेरा देख तू आकाश के तारे न देख।... अब यकीनन ठोस है धरती हकीकत की तरह / यह हक़ीक़त देख लेकिन खौफ़ के मारे न देख।... Aaj sadon par likhe nare na dekh / dhar andhera dekh too aakash ke tare naa dekh /...ub yakinan thos hei dharati hakikat ki taran / yeh hakikat dekh lekin khauf ke mare naa dekh,
The Indian Department of posts issued a commemorative Rs 5 stamp with Dushyant Kumar's image on it in September 2009. Furthermore, a museum dedicated to him
exists in CTT Nagar locality of his home town Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh.
