YOGA DAY-2022 - Yoga posture appropriate for gentle devout: An interview

Here is my reproduced write-up "Yoga posture appropriate for gentle devout: An interview" published earlier in merinews on-line portal which has been closed down.

Dr. Lalit Inshore: 20 June, 2018 @merinews[1]

Yoga Day is drawing near and cities across the world are going to organize mass yoga events on June 21 with protocol stressing similarity and uniformity. However, there is a need to have yoga performance suiting the diverse nature of people and needs.

An interview was held with Dr Lalit Kishore, Research Fellow at Disha in Jaipur, by Shivani Jain, a student of Banasthali Vidypeeth, Niwai, Rajasthan, to know about the implications of uniform yoga protocol for massive events.

Shivani: What do you think mass events on yoga in camp mode with a protocol subscribing for uniformity?

Kishore: Such uniform mass events on yoga turn make the whole thing into a fad and band wagon while nature and neuro-biological structure of each individual is different. Some people are diverse in terms their ability and require yoga as a therapy. So, one-size-fits-all format tends to make yoga a fad.

Shivani: What should be done to make yoga inclusive?

Kishore: Yoga should be treated as a science and should be open to adaptation and experimentation. The yoga postures need to be classified in terms of age and ability continuum. Also, for differently abled people one-to-one assistive yoga needs to be practice for a longer period for physical re-education of the body.

Shivani: I am a devout and religious person along with being a performing arts enthusiast, what kind of yoga postures you recommend for me?

Kishore: I recommend the Natraja Posture Yoga; Krishna Posture Yoga; Vishnu Posture Yoga; Meera Bai Posture Yoga; Bhakt Dhruv Posture; Shakti Posture Yoga and Bhakt Prahlad Posture Yoga. Striking these postures slowly regulated by breathing in the cyclic order of purak-kumbhak-rechak will be suitable. This type of yoga should be done early morning and late evening in loose white clothes
