Across the world, academic credit system in education has become prevalent since the students are being evaluated in terms of credits, credit-hours or credit-points earned over a period of study which can be transferred universally for study elsewhere or for re-entry to education at an appropriate level. Now, this system of assessment of students' learning has become accepted right from school education to higher education and PhD programmes.

General ABC analysis of academic credit system

A: Assessment unit (1 credit) in a study course is measured in terms of numbers of hours (generally 3 hours or 6 class sessions or microcredential sessions of 40 minutes each) of mastery instruction per week through lectures, tutorials, remedials, practicals, field work, assignments per week

B: Breaking up the course material into daily learning units, weekly learning units ( 1 credit per 3 Notional Learning Hours or NLH), monthly study units ( 4 credits, 10-12 NLH), trimester learning package (12 credits, 40-48 NLH) or semester learning package (60-72 NLH)
