ABCs of auditory learning and spoken word art

It has been estimated that about 30 percent of learners in any group are auditory learners and get accommodated if the auditory skills of the teacher are excellent and if he can create musicalized textual material with good meaning making exercises, my own action research informs.

Here are ABCs of auditory learning

A: Ability of listening and communicating verbally or pointing out which is acquired as one hears and perceives sounds and interacts with the environment and constructed experience

B: Background sounds can be disturbing; hence, soundproof or quiet room is helpful to focus on a particular sound or voice without being distracted by other sounds.

C: Curriculum should be designed to enhance auditory perception consisting of richness to receive, identify, discriminate, understand with meaning making, retain and respond to properly articulated sounds with clarity by the instructor.

D: Auditory learning is the process of learning through speaking and listening. An auditory learner learns by sound so they need to be able to hear and vocalise information to be able to understand and retain it

E: Experimentation with musicalization of text or putting information into a rhythmic pattern such as a rap, poem, or song as well reading aloud by a voice-trained teacher are helpful

It is said that auditory learning can be enhanced by converting essential text of a lesson in to rap lyrics of 1-2 minutes (100-200 words) or applying the spoken word art

Even, the foregoing ABC poem can be rendered through spoken word art.

Spoken word refers to an oral poetic performance (performance poetry) combining performer's aesthetic qualities with slightly musicalized text. According a Wikipedia post, it mainly focuses on four basic elements

  1. · Trained voice in intonation and voice inflection

  2. · Aaesthetics of recitation or phonaesthetics with elements of rhythm, pitch, tempo and pauses

  3. · Word play or inclusion of language art elements for reading poetic piece

  4. · Represent some nouns or verbs by actions or gestures and facial expressions

Well rehearsed poetry rendering with the above-mentioned four basics provided appeal to the ears and eyes.
