The article of Dr Lalit Inshore” ABCs of green technology to mitigate global warming amidst razing fires in Brazil” published in merinews (now discontinued) and also disseminated by muckrack.com [1] is being reproduced since it defines the term ‘green technology’ as an ABC poem.
The issues of global warming and climate change invariably come up at global summits and conferences. The issue has heated up due to unprecedented number of fires raged throughout Brazil and most fire taking place in the Amazon.
The global concern is that the Amazon gives out oxygen from its forests and reduces planet-warming greenhouse gases to slow down the climate change speeds up. But as the world’s largest rainforest is eaten away by logging, mining, and agribusiness, it may not be able to provide the same buffer.
Recently, French President Macron tweeted for action and talks on the Amazon at the G7 summit but Brazil's President Bolsonaro promptly turned down the money calling it the internal matter of the country. He has deployed the army to put off the razing fires.
There is a growing concern for mitigating the effects of global warming and going for green technologies these days. The core issue is that of sustainable development.
The term “technology” pertains to the application of knowledge for daily life and practical purposes. And, the field of “green technology” encompasses a continuously evolving a family of methods, materials, techniques for generating energy to non-toxic cleaning products and keeping the development sustainable.
Green technology stresses the need for innovations in and alternatives to engery production as well as changes in the life style.
Here are the ABC’s of green technology.
A for:
-Alternatives to fossil fuel or chemical intensive agriculture that cause damage to health and the environment
-Application of green chemistry and green engineering principles to industry and daily life
-Alternative fuels and renewable means for generating energy and going for energy efficiency innovations
B for:
-Basing the economic activity around technologies and products that benefit the environment, speeding their implementation and creating new careers that truly protect the planet
-Building construction that encompasses everything from the choice of building materials to where a building is located
-Bringing about energy efficiency in the existing systems
C for:
-Continuing indefinitely into the future without damaging or depleting natural resources
-“Cradle to cradle” design adoption and ending the “cradle to grave” cycle of manufactured products, by creating products that can be fully reclaimed or re-used.
