I had attended a puppet show put up by the hearing impaired children in which the non-verbal communication was prominently used. Children were dressed as puppets who demonstrated body language and gestures based performance skills to communicate (see inset clipping)
A secondary analysis, as part of action research, of the puppet show led to the following leanings.
1. It is often thought that non-verbal communication is a disruptive communication to influence the conventional communication and to go beyond it by testing new ways by questioning the status quo and explore new and interesting ways of communication of ideas, messages and information.
2. Here are ABCs of non-verbal communication
A: Appearance, aesthetic tastes in physical presence; manners, politeness and get-up are first impressions
C: Communication skills of nonverbal type coveys messages louder than words since they are unintentional or spontaneous
B: Body posture, eye contact, gestures, facial expressions, comfortable touch, vocal tones and para-language are used
D: Distance and social space creates level of comfort in non-verbal communication
E: Exercises and training in use of gestures, expressions and vocal tones lead to effective
