ABCs of the 'discussion and implications' section of action research

Updated: Feb 8, 2023

Kriya Anusandhan is a monograph on action research in Hindi that has been brought out by BN Society - Chaksu based NGO - to promote action research among school teachers working in the mainstream schools and alternative education centers managed by civil society organizations

The monograph, authored by Dr Lalit Kishore, is a valuable hand book for the educational functionaries who wish to research their actions and improve their practice through objective self reflection.

According to Dr Kishore, the most difficult part the reporting an action research paper is the 'discussion and implications' section since the it provides the recommendation for self-improvement of the practitioner as well fills the gap between theory and action.

Here is an ABC verse culled out the monograph that provides the framework for writing the concluding part of an action research report.

A: Analyzing and interpreting results, outcomes and findings after summarizing the research study

B: Back up conclusion on the basis of results from similar work and other reported studies in the literature

C: Connecting the parts of summary and how the results fit into other reported studies for validation and concluding with a generalized statement

D: Dwelling on the weaknesses and limitations of the study

E: Explaining the significance of results and linking them to the key issues and the context as the summary of the study
