International Human Rights Day, December 10, is round the corner, and currently, Indian farmers are holding peaceful protest for roll back of the farm bills passed by the government. It was quite unbecoming of the State to disrupt the peaceful protest and many see it as the violation of human rights by the state. No violence and harm to national and private property has happened during the protest which has become two months old.
Many foreign leaders and social groups have appreciated the utterly peaceful protest of the Indian farmers during the hard times caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In some cities the human rights activists are organising rallies in support of farmers' movement in India.
The purpose of the observance of International Human Rights Day is to improve the physical, social, cultural and mental well being of people globally as one human race. This year, the theme of the observance is: "Recover Better - Stand Up for Human Rights."
"We will reach our common global goals only if we are able to create equal opportunities for all, address the failures exposed and exploited by COVID-19, and apply human rights standards to tackle entrenched, systematic, and intergenerational inequalities, exclusion and discrimination," stated the United Nations ahead of the observance adding it was an opportunity to 'reaffirm the importance of human rights in re-building the world we want, the need for global solidarity as well as our interconnectedness and shared humanity.'
The UN has made a call to action “Stand Up for Human rights” to engage the general public to bolster transformative action and showcase practical and inspirational examples that can contribute to recovering better and fostering more resilient and just societies.
