Are we heading toward marketization of education through voucher system by closing state run schools

The news is in the air about government withdrawing from the state run education with an intent to hand over school system to private players through voucher system.

The children of marginalized and poor sections of the society are going to suffer a lot, many educators feel, In many countries, the national governments have withdrawn from education as welfare based social action and privatized it through education voucher system by directly funding families for children's education in institutions chosen by themselves.

In some other countries educational expenses are reimbursed with a limit even for home schooling or education in private schools.

A few years ago, I had published an article in this regard and herein, the main view point expressed in the article went as follows. It seems that in India too we are heading towards maketization of education by winding up the government system.

View point: Marketisation of education refers to privatization of the education as profit making industry. The education voucher system for public education is an example of of marketization of education by the state. However, many well meaning educators see privatatization and marketization of education as a bid of converting educating into a commodity leading to pedagogical oppression by shirking public accountability of educating children by the state as a welfare activity.
