The followers, who look after the Vaishnavite monasteries – the sattras - in the North-East India lead celibate life and are called 'kevaliya bhakaas' while the household followers are called Mahapurushia, Sarania and Sankari. Srimanta Sankardev, who, led a long life of 120 years created huge and varied Dasya Bhakti literature for different age groups.

HAIKU ON DASYA BHAVA

Do Dasya Bhakti

Forge master-servant sentiment

As God's devotion

Serve God selflessly

Be awed by glory of God -

Serve sick, destitute

Clean worship places

Serve meals to the needy

Sing for God's blessings
