The UNICEF-USA has recommended that kids (children in primary grades) can practice a few yoga poses and stretches without any risk and get the health benefits along with increased flexibility and fitness, mindfulness and relaxation.
"Yoga is a great form of exercise for people who are looking to stay in shape with a low-impact activity. Of course, not all yoga poses are ideal for children. Like adults, they need to master the basics before moving on to more advanced stretches," holds the UNICEF, cautioning that the parents and teachers must get training or special consultation before taking up with yoga routine with the kids with proper breathing regimen.
Out of 13 yoga poses and stretches, essential 10 that have been recommended are as follows.
1 .Mountain pose; 2. Upward salute; 3. Cat pose; 4. Cow pose; 5. Child’s pose; 6. Happy baby; 7. Tree pose; 8. Cobra pose; 9. Eagle pose; 10 Corpse pose
Some other groups have listed the extra choices for kids as follows: chair pose, bridge pose, bow pose, frog pose, easy pose, hero pose, boat pose, lion pose, butterfly pose.
Primary teachers and parents have an authenticated choices to make for kids-friendly yoga.
I feel that, the transition from yoga poses to language learning through stick drawings and sight vocabulary can also be made as an innovation to combine kinesthetic, visual and cognitive learning.
