Award winning science education work at Kendriya Vidyalaya 2, NFL, Bathinda, in late 1980s

During late 1980s, the staff of Kendriya Vidyalaya-2, NFL, Bathinda, won the Commonwealth Award both in the individual and syndicate categories for innovations in science education at the secondary school level.


Principal, Dr Lalit Kishore, received the award in the individual category. While the syndicate award (commendation) was accorded to HS Puri, BK Aggrawal, Bina Jain, Usha Singla and Balwinder Kohli which was guided and documented by the principal.




Dr. Kishore was invited to the UK to receive the award and also given a study fellowship to interact with STEM educators of that country.


The Commonwealth Award Scheme is run by the Commonwealth Association of Science, Technology and Mathematics Educators (CASTME), an organisation established in 1974 with an aim of sharing best practice across the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines and to demonstrate the importance of STEM to local environments, schools and communities.


"Awards are offered for educational projects, which address the social or human context of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Any group or individual involved in any form of education in the widest senses, formal or informal, within societies can enter including pre-school, Primary or Secondary. Additionally, Tertiary education projects can be entered from school, college, university or from communities," informs CASTME.
