Basant Panchami observed with gaiety, devotion and worship of Goddess Saraswati

This year, Basant Panchami festival was celebrated on February 16 in institutions, temples, social organisations, music schools and community centres in many cities of the North India though in subdued ways.


In temples, vaious deities were dressed in new yellow clothes along with flower rangolis in the thresholds of their premises.


Musical concerts were held a few places to enliven the observance by invoking Devi saraswati.


Basant Panchami is the fifth day is celebrated on the fifth day of the bright fortnight in the month of Magha every year.


"it is Basant Panchami festival today. Nature is in bloom. Students are praying to Goddess saraswati garlanded in yellow merrigold. the Gods in temples dressed in yellow velvet, silk and satin clothes. Mustard, widelia, marigols are blooming. the Earth is bathed in yellow. ..You can hear birds and bees singing!" wrote a face facebook friend wishing 'Happy Basant Panchami!'


"Basant Panchami day is dedicated to Saraswati, the Goddess of knowledge, music, arts, science and technology. Goddess Saraswati is worshipped on Vasant Panchami day. Vasant Panchami is also known as Shri Panchami and Saraswati Panchami. People worship Goddess Saraswati to get enlighten with knowledge and to get rid of lethargy, sluggishness and ignorance. This ritual of initiating education to children is known as Akshar-Abhyasam or Vidya-Arambham/Praasana which is one of the famous rituals of Vasant Panchami. Schools and colleges arrange pujas in the morning to seek blessing of the Goddess," informed drikpanchang website.
