Library Lovers' Day: A Joy of Reading Session Held
Library Lovers' Day is celebrated annually on February 14 across Australia (country of the origin of the observance in 2006) on February 14th to highlight the vital role libraries, librarians, and library staff play in the institutions and community. The observance celebrates the joy of reading, literacy, and the, often, creative work of library staff.
The focus is on showing "love" for library spaces,, resources, and community connections. Some libraries expand the celebration beyond just the 14th to a full week on experiences related to library as a learning resource.
At Centre for Communicative English (CCE) in Jaipur. a session was held on read-to-learn-skill. The story "The Bullock and the Lion" from "Pachatantra: Tales of practical Wisdom" by Sunita Pant Bansal and published by Sree Book Centre, Mumbai, was used for reading and converting into linear noun-adjective-verb chart that involved the cognitive functions of reading, identification, sorting, labelling, self-talk and spatial writing. The book was donated by Adwita Kejriwal to the class library of CCE. (see collage)
Library as a learning resource: A poem
Oh, quiet room of knowledge, sanctuary of the mind,
Where endless shelves of stories and wonders we find.
From colorful picture books for the young and small,
To vast encyclopedia pages covering it all.
A treasure house of wisdom in the center of the school,
Where we learn to read, to think, and to use the golden rule.
With every book we open, new adventures start to rise,
Turning curious children into clever, thinking wise.
Our helpful, guiding librarian shows us where to look,
For the perfect, bright, and shiny, knowledge-filled book.
This peaceful, silent haven is where we truly grow,
A library is the greatest place for learning that we know.
