"The 9th World Conference of Global Educational Research Association (GERA) is being organized in collaboration with School of Education, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda on the theme of “Envisioning Education for Transforming Youth to Restore Global Peace” on November 28-29, 2020," notified Global Educational Research Association (GERA) stating that it is going to be a virtual conference.
According the concept note on the theme, in the present scenario, the use of ICT for teaching, learning and assessment is inevitable. However, 'the parents and teachers who were dubbed as technology illiterates have been compelled to use technology for exposing their wards to (online) teaching-learning.'
"It is difficult to imagine if the conventional culture of face-to-face classroom will ever be back again. This has implications for the future classrooms and educational institutions. In the coming years millions of parents will seriously think about new options for educating their children. Students will access, manage and create knowledge in some new way, mostly on their cell phones and other internet devices without the help of adults," adds the concept note.
Under such circumstances, the institution campus size will shrink, and by 2030, the societies will be living in ubiquitous intelligent environments wherein education will be transforming itself for a digital world, it is being envisioned.
Furthermore, attempts will be made to have individual educational plan for each learner through varied digital learning material and learning opportunities. Given this,the teaching staff will not be holding full time, long duration employment in schools and universities, it has been foreseen saying that the MOOC (Massive Online Open Courses) will be sought by the students.
"There will be technology enabled teaching systems preparing courses, giving lectures, answering questions, setting and marking assignments, and providing timely and insightful feedback. There will be customized tools and applications that would help developing research proposals, conducting investigations and producing articles for dissemination," adds the concept note warning the fissure so created may lead to physical and social distancing to the effect that the ultimate target of global peace and harmony may get disturbed and urging educationists to work towards planning and redesigning clearly stated new mind-set, skill-set, and tool-set patterns of changed educational system.
The concept note concludes that all scenarios have to be visualized by the academicians and researchers associated with GERA to prepare the society for promoting global peace education.
