Capitalism is repugnant, filthy, gross and alienating: Remembering Castro on death anniversary

Cuban communist leader, Fidel Castro (Born: August 13, 1926; Died: November 25, 2016) led Cuba from 1959 to 2008 as the first communist state head in the Western Hemisphere close to the United States. On his death anniversary, he was remembered with great enthusiasm in Cuba and Latin America as well as on social media across the world by many groups.

He was much respected leader among the revolutionaries in Latin America. Even, in free India many youth were inspired by Castro's persona and zeal for an equitable and just society.

His vision of an equitable society is summed up in one of his quotes as follows:"The equal right of all citizens to health, education, work, food, security, culture,

science, and wellbeing - that is, the same rights we proclaimed when we began our struggle, in addition to those which emerge from our dreams of justice and equality for all inhabitants of our world - is what I wish for all."

He was dead against capitalism and privatization. He had stated, "I find

capitalism repugnant. It is filthy, it is gross, it is alienating... because it causes war, hypocrisy and competition."

On April 16 in1961, while declaring his government socialist, he addressed his people with these words, "Workers and farmers, this is the socialist and democratic revolution of the humble, with the humble and for the humble."

He had once said, "I began revolution with 82 men. If I had to do it again, I do it with 10 or 15 and absolute faith. It does not matter how small you are if you have faith and plan of action."

I saw the inset picture of the leader showing that he was remembered

on the social media in India this year. Earlier, in many institutions. history and political science teachers used to teach the topic of Cuban Revolution with a great zest and zeal.
