The other day, I spotted a small butterfly it in my garden walking on the stem of a plant and made a video. It was not the smallest butterfly.
The three smallest butterflies of India are the Tiny Grass Blue; Grass Jewel and Pale Grass Blue. However, Freyeria trochylus or the grass jewel is the smallest butterfly in India.
~Most small butterflies live by sucking the ooze from the green parts of the plant.
~They have an average lifespan of 20 to 40 days.
~Furthermore, butterflies can only see three colours, namely, red, green and yellow.
~Small butterflies are more sensitive to green colour.
It seems that the COVID-19 pandemic has improved the national environment that a good number of butterflies are being spotted in the parks, house gardens and in the wild. It has been reported that butterflies are very sensitive to pollution and work as as the ‘bio-indicators’ of pollution levels in the environment.
