The innovative project designed, developed and implemented by Chaksu-based NGO Bhavi Nirman Society "Imparting Experiences for Science Processes and Laboratory Techniques to Rural Muslim Girls of Bridge School with Discarded Ball Point Pens" has won the "Findel-CASTME Protect Our Planet Award-2022" - instituted by the Commonwealth Secretariat located CASTME organization The honour to the NGO has been lauded by the newspapers of Jaipur and Tonk districts (see inset clippings).
It may be mentioned here that Chaksu is the block headquarter in Jaipur district of Rajasthan state, India, located about 40 kms away from Jaipur
The award winning STEM education project was implemented by Rama Sharma and Beena Mali at the NGO’s Nikhar Bridge School for drop-out and non-starter Muslim girls. The project was guided by Dr Lalit Kishore and field-assisted by Giriraj Prasad Sharma associated with the NGO. The project was unanimously judged worthy of the award from the entries received from 54 commonwealth countries.
The abstract of the project:
A twelve-hour STEM education project consisting of six lab techniques and six experiments was developed by using discarded ball-point pen bodies and refills for which activity sheets were developed as curricular material for systematic implementation of the project. The skills related to handling the lab apparatus and processes of science developed the attitude of making objective observations, analysis and verification as revealed by students' reactions. The features of the project were re-use of discarded material, creativity, hands-on learning and gender equity in the interest in science and low level technology.
