The paper of this blogger has been cited as “Kishore, L. (2001) . Management of minimum levels of learning scheme . The Educational Review, 44, 137-38 “ in the book by Girishwar Misra “ Psychology in India, Volume I” (see inset clipping).
The paper describes that how cognitive psychology based curriculum scheme of Minimum Levels of Learning (MLL) was adapted and implemented in Lok Jumbish Project, Rajasthan, in 1990s which was funded by SIDA.
The MLL scheme is also known as the “Competency Based Education” which now being advocated by NEP-2020 and credits based assessment system.
In Lok Jumbish Project, an advisory committee reviewed the MLL scheme of the NCERT, adapted the competencies to the context of Rajasthan and developed the relevant textbooks and training modules to be implemented and monitored at the Cluster Level through team of master trainers working as Cluster Resource Team.
At the school level, child-level micro-planning was attempted to chart the progress of each child through the stated competencies. Monthly, review workshop of teachers at cluster level (8-10 schools) were organized to monitor the quality of learning on criterion based performance (80 X 80) and on-going capacity building of teachers.
The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has put its stake in competency-based education and deems it as a student-centric transformative approach to teaching and learning process to enhance quality of education in India which emphasizes the acquisition of cognitive or thinking skills skills and knowledge (content) at mastery level.
