The article of Dr Lalit Kishore[1] (1983) on computer technology was published in the periodical Indian Educational, (13):8, in which he describes that it was in the early 1980s, computers had stated finding inroads into Indian schools.
The computer technology enthusiasts and computer manufactures wanted that Computer Science as a discipline should be introduced at the school level right from primary grades. However, many well meaning educators wanted that machine-based learning should be introduced at higher secondary school level only. he had subscribed for.
He was of the view that at the secondary school level, students can undergo readiness courses for computer science study at the post-secondary level. If courses are introduced at the lower level, it will have adverse psycho-social effects; both reducing socialization and making brain dull since computer would take take over many cognitive functions.
However, computer market through their aggressive marketing have got computer courses right from the primary level and it become a fad despite research indicating that it it has adverse effects on the physical and mental health of children in their formative years, he says reflectively now.
Dr Kishore, had worked as principal of KV, Tenga Valley, Arunachal Pradesh from 1983-86 and published umpteen papers and articles on various aspects of education.
