Creating GIFs for art-integrated and culture-related learning

It has been seen that teachers fight shy in use of GIF mode of photograph editing available in many smart phones since they perceive that Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) is something for use in social media in the form of animated visual comments and good wishes for various life events.

Here is a GIF that was created by taking the pictures of six frames in the collage and then selected frames were subjected to GIF application of an android phone.

Such GIFs can be used for cultural linkage of language learning on an Indian festival (see inset visuals) and art-integrated learning.

Educational use of art integrated learning can be in the form of silent animated micro-videos can be made by teachers easily from the pictures of line drawing taken in successive stages to illustrate some processes.

It has been held in the NCF-2005 that traditional and folk art forms along with heritage craft can be integrated with disciplinary learning through well-designed projects by the teacher and students as co-learners.

However, in most schools art promotion has been done ritualistically or as a formality on special occasion such as drawing, art and poster competitions on children's day or annuual school function related exhibition as a show off of talentism.

Photography and rangoli can be integrated through GIF animation and can work as a teaching-learning tool as illustrated here for cultural linkage of learning.
