SHORT NOTE
Sir Chhotu Ram (24 November 1881 – 9 January 1945), whose death anniversary is being observed today (Jan 9). was a prominent well educated Aryasamaji Jat politician and farmers' leader of Punjab province. and a co-founder of the National Unionist Party that kept distance both from the Congress and Muslim League. He also contributed to the spread of Arya Samaj and was considered as the most progressive Jat leader and social reformer. He had founded a Jat-Anglo Sanskrit School in 1913 in Rohtak as an educational reform.
He struggled hard for the rights of the farmers during the British period and worked for the upliftment of deprived sections of society and women. For his contribution to social reforms among the conservative society, he was knighted by the British.
