Profits Over Piety: The Sinful Material Shift of Holy Diwali

QOUTES
The spirit of each festival and the cultural ethos are gradually, yet indeed, being hijacked by mega corporations and their overindulgence in consumerism.”
— Amitav Chatterjee
But now we see their significance has been eroded by their commercialization. Now these have become just important occasions, to promote personal and commercial purpose
Festivals are occasions to empower ourselves in the course of humanity - they are the occasions to rekindle the promise of humanity in our heart - the promise that we keep forgetting in the cacophony of manmade labels.

QUINTETS
Holy Diwali looses its glow,
As markets put on a big show.
The priest and the store,
Both cry out for more,
With purpose and piety low.
The market turns holy to gold,
Where stories of faith are all sold.
With trinkets to buy,
And preachers who lie,
The sacred is now cheaply told.
The merchant now sells in the aisle,
With greed and a cynical smile.
The temple is sold,
For silver and gold,
And prayer is now measured by pile.
Politicos build temples of gold,
Where stories of profit are told.
The shrines turn to malls,
Through wide marble halls,
As greed takes a firm, heavy hold.
