Geneva is the second-most populous city of Switzerland which is located in the French-speaking part of the country and is famous as financial capital of the country and for the lake which has two large rocks emerging from it as well as a high-reach fountain in it.

At times, it is also called the global city since it houses numerous international organizations, agencies of the United Nations and Red Cross. Because of its high class civic amenities, Geneva is considered to be one of the most liveable cities in the world though the cost of living is very high.

Some parts of the city are quite old which are located around the Arve River west of the city centre with quite a few churches. Old City is also dotted with Celtic, Roman and medieval villages as heritage sites. There are 82 buildings or sites in Geneva that are listed as Swiss heritage sites.

The World Council of Churches and the Lutheran World Federation both have their headquarters at the Ecumenical Centre in Grand-Saconnex. The religious buildings worth visiting are Cathedral St-Pierre et Chapel des Macchabes, Notre-Dame Church, Russian church, St-Germain Church, Temple de la Fusterie, Temple de l'Auditoire, and many more

Civic buildings, archeological sites, museums, theatres, and other cultural sites like the opera house, the Victoria Hall are the places of site seeing. Every summer the Geneva Festival consisting of hour-long grand firework is organized. Also, an annual music festival takes place in June

CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research) and the Large Hadron are the best known of Geneva's educational and research facilities for research in fundamental particles and exploration of the origin of the universe.

The famous mountain peak Mont Blanc can be seen from Geneva and is an hour's drive from the city. (inputs: Prabha, Google tourist sites and Wikipedia)
