Title: Reactions of Special Education Trainees to a Workshop on Producing a Photo-Essay Using a Mobile Camera: An Action Research
Abstract: An action research was undertaken by conducting a two-hour workshop on producing a photo-essay using a mobile camera with the participants (N=68; age range: 20-45 years; mean age=35 years; special education) at the Disha Foundation in Jaipur. The action research had three objectives: (1) To expose participants to three different styles of pho-essays; (2) To make participants identify nine photos of the event of workshop to work as paragraphs of the photo-essay on it; The resources for the workshop consisted of a photo-essay expert as the workshop conductor; a power point presentation; a short interview-based film and an open form to write captions on the photos of a photo-essay age give reactions on the workshop. As a first exposure to such a workshop, out of 68 participants, 20 could think of all the 9 relevant photographs; 40 could think of 4-6 relevant photographs and 8 were totally irrelevant. The reactions of the participants were analyzed by classifying their comments as favourable, unfavoural and neutral. Out of 204 responses, 180 were found favourable, 20 neutral and four unfavourable. In Summary
According to Kishore (2026), digital transformation has democratized visual research by integrating consumer electronics like smartphones, interactive boards, and cameras into standard classroom practice, allowing educators to easily capture rich, visual data. It is observed that while visual methodologies and multimedia, such as photographs and GIFs, are increasingly used to analyze inclusive education, a gap remains where academic culture still prioritizes traditional, text-based action research over visual evidence and there is need to include visual data to get better research results
