Dr Kishore's work on competency based education included in research survey on psychology

The work done by Jaipur-based educator and researcher Dr Kishore has been included in the ICSSR Survey of Advances in Research. Kishore (2001) published a paper on Minimum Levels of Learning (MLLs) in the journal 'Educational Review' that has reported the survey [1]. Reference of the work is also available on Google Scholar [2].

The NCERT created the specification of MLLs in 1978 under a UNICEF-assisted projects on ‘Primary Education Curriculum Renewal' and 'Developmental Activities in Community Education and Participation' which proposed 'Minimum Learning Continuum'indicating the learning outcomes expected to be achieved by all children completing Classes II, III, IV and V. Later, in 1984, the Primary Education Curriculum Renewal Project was evaluated in 1984 using a set of achievement tests developed for all the primary classes based on the competencies specified in the Minimum Learning Continuum. Consequent to the National Policy on Education 1986, the NCERT prepared another document entitled, 'Minimum Levels o f Learning at the Primary Stage'. This led to curriculum reforms and researches in the form of competency based education at the school level [3].

In 1990s, Lok Jumbish Project in Rajasthan with Sandhan as technical support institution developed competency based textbooks for primary classes with recurrent teacher training to improve the quality of government schools in the form of yearly incremental learning outcome gains measured through standardized pre- and post-tests based on the Bloom's taxonomy of cognitive development which is considered as the basis of MLLs and competency based curricula.
