According to the awards oranzers, the CASTME contributes to the delivery of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), connecting educators, of all ages, in both formal and informal settings throughout the Commonwealth and beyond. It actively promotes the role of community and family in a child’s foundational learning and promotes the importance of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) in everyday lives.

The website informs, "The award scheme is run by the CASTME, established in 1974 to share best practice across the STEM disciplines and demonstrate STEM's importance to local environments, schools and communities. Awards are offered for educational projects addressing the social or human context of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Any group or individual involved in any form of education in the broadest senses, formal or informal, within societies can enter, including preschool, Primary or Secondary. Additionally, Tertiary education projects can be entered from schools, colleges, universities or communities."
