Significance of drawing with numbers for pre-school kids and children with learning disabilities

At early education stage and for children with learning disabilities, instead of free drawing and painting, there is a need of giving systematic experiences in drawing shapes- and known structures-based experiences for multiple benefits and sound readiness for writing.


Besides, cognitive gains (Visual analysis, better retention and recall, sequence learning) and visual skills (creating visual codes from known shapes and structure) development when children are given experience of drawing objects with numbers, there are many other benefits, The non-cognitive and non-art advantages of such interventions.


Spill over
-Development of fine motor skills involving specific movements of the hands, wrists, and fingers that improve writing later
-Enhancement of attentiveness and concentration
-Improvement of hand-eye coordination
-Betterment in brain-movement coordination skills
-Create pre-writing readiness

The inset short video visual symbol drawing with numbers 6 and 9 was tried with a child with learning disabilities in clinical settings as a designed intervention through modelling and assisted drawing for 15 minutes for week to appreciably enhance find motor and coordination skills of the child.
