Eventful learning on World Kidney Day: Linking learning of biology with the observance

In 2021, World Kidney Day was observed on March 11 and it was thought to link learning about kidney in classroom along with the message from the WHO, classroom activities as follows were identified.

1 Creating a GIF on the ‘ How to Draw Diagram of Kidney’ as successive drawing

2. To know about the parts of kidney

3. To know about functions and importance of kidney

4. Lifestyle appropriate for maintaining kidney health

Instead of observing the day as tokenism or thoughtless activities by a few, educator recommend that teachers and students must make efforts to link the observance to learning and behaviour change.

For the teacher, the GIF making took one hour but it led to conscious neat drawing of kidney by students.
