Experimenting with presentation of physics topics as art-integrated learning

Art Integrated Learning (AIL) is being advocated and promoted by the CBSE [1]; NCERT [2]; IGCSE [3] and Kishore [4] as an instructional technique to learn about some topic of the school curriculum by incorporating the aesthetic elements in it.

According to Cambridge IGCSE Art & Design course, the area of study needs to develop a greater awareness of the role played by the visual arts in society and in history, broadening cultural horizons and individual experience of students. And, individual learning experience can come by making artwork a cross-cutting activity.

The AIL can connote the following aspects as one of various strands or mediums of experiential learning to understand as well as to reinforce various concepts of school subjects.

- learning through arts
-learning with arts
-applied art based learning
-promoting design and decorating skills around a topic
-non-art use of are as educational therapy

At Plenum School, HP, India, a experiment was tried to communicate the topics of physics by two students as a part of art-integrated communication or presentation. It was done in the following steps: demonstration by the teacher; try-out by two students; feedback by art teacher to refine product; presentation by students; formative evaluation and finalization of the products

The demonstration by the teacher is shown here.
