The field-initiated research (FIR) in education is viewed as fundamental or basic research in which specific research questions and methods of study are generated by professional researchers and investigators conforming to standards of scientifically valid research by a team of investigators with research and scholarship credentials.
ABCs of Field Initiated Research
A: An array of research methods or research methodical diversity expertise (quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, ethnographies, clinical studies, case studies, design-based research, participatory research methods, systems approach, archival research, desk study, etc.)
B: Better holistic understanding of the subject, problem studied, or body of knowledge or theory are the part of the study outcome
C: Constitutes an intensive, systematic study directed toward producing new scientific or valid knowledge in a discipline with its overlapping with learning theories, anthropology, philosophy, psychology, sociology, economics, history, law, technology, art-forms, communication science or neuroscience
D: Develops norms, principles, methods, procedures and technology that maximize the intended educational services or outcomes
E: Exploration and discovery research insights that generate theories through fresh, multi-dimensional and refined analyses of data, observational findings and collation of all kinds of data
HOW TO GET GOING
A field-initiated research requires at least...
· Identification of and commitment from three researchers of high degree of research credential and scholarship in the latest in the subject area and proficiency in critical-creative thinking
· Preparation of a background paper by one-week study of the research diversity and latest inter-disciplinary researches or theories
· Brainstorming and focus group discussion sessions by involving three researchers and two investigators in the second weak
· Orientation in field-initiated research proposal writing skill for one week
· Writing and finalization of FIR proposal
