The internet search engine giant Google marked the 151st birth (April 19, 2021) anniversary of first female Russian surgeon, poet, and professor Vera Gedroits with a sketch Doodle on its home page.
Not only she was first woman to serve as a physician in the Imperial Palace of Russia but a role model for medical fraternity since she saved countless lives through selfless service as well as her contribution to wartime medicine as a knowledge area.
Despite being born into a renowned family with royal links in Kiev of the Russian Empire, she took to studying medicine in Switzerland and working as a practicing physician and surgeon.
According to the Google post, as a professional physician, Gedroits was always concerned about low standards of hygiene, nutrition and sanitation and tried to uplift them.
As a creative professional, she diversified her work in medical education, wrote a few books and contributed to print media.
