Haiku recitation should pay attention to how the words of the poem themselves sound. To practice recitation, read the poem silently and hear the words in your head.
Since haiku is non-rhyming short pattern poem, we need to pay attention to assonance, consonance, slant rhymes, pauses, alliteration, etc., to enhance the recitation-value of the poem.
It is held that haiku is merely written but ‘composed’ with play of words to get a recitation-value or a sprinkling of spoken word art elements.
A Common Style
One of the styles of recitation is movement of the sound from softness to to little loud and back again to softness a ripple that arises and ebbs.
Like singing, a lot of practice is required to acquire a reasonable recitation-style of composed haiku.
I composed the following haiku and practiced ‘ripple style’ of recitation for 10 minutes daily for a two weeks to hone it.
