As an ancient cultural festival, Teej stands for celebrating 'Divine Feminine Principle' and such festivals exist in most cultures of the world. According to to Emily Torres the 'divine feminine' is the ‘spiritual concept’ that subscribes for the view that ‘there exists a feminine counterpart to the patriarchal and masculine worship structures that have long dominated organized religions’ and it ‘extends well beyond one belief system, and instead can be used as a spiritual lens to balance our perspective.’
“When you feel you are being moved by the creative spirit, you are in fact being moved by the divine feminine,” states Teri Degler. further, Matthew Fox maintains, “When the Sacred Masculine is combined with the Sacred Feminine inside each of us, we create the ‘sacred marriage’ of compassion and passion in ourselves.” This is significant spiritual tenet finds the expression in Shiv-Parvati union celebrated on Teej festival.
