Haryana Day, November 1: A short note on the state


Haryana - the home / land of Lord Hari - was created as a separate state in 1966. Haryana Day, is celebrated on November 1st and marks the formation of the state on 1st November in 1966 with Chandigarh as the Union Territory serving as the state capital of Punjab and Haryana both.


After bifurcation from Punjab, Haryana progressed and became the third-highest per capita income state in India. Besides this, Haryana has currently become economically well developed region in South Asia with Gurugram becoming a thriving cyber city. The state, currently,

has 22 districts which are highly manageable.


Haryana has its own unique but rich traditional folk and rustic culture consisting of following art and craft forms.

  • Folk dances and performances such as saang, rasa lila and ragini mixed with folk theater are mostly agrarian and martial in nature with fast energetic movements and rendering

  • Phulkari and shisha embroidery are the main crafts

  • Cultural dances that are performed relate to festive-seasonal, devotional, and ceremonial-recreational categories such as Dhamal Dance, Ghoomar, Jhoomar, Khoria, Loor, etc.

  • The earthly humor of Haryanavies enlivens the conversation and cultural renderings
