His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree Purushottampriyadasji Maharaj (78) - the spiritual leader of Maninagar Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthanz - left for heavenly abode early Thursday at CIMS hospital in Ahemdabad. He had tested COVID positive and was undergoing treatment. His demise has been widely condoled in Gujarat and rich tributes has been paid by the leaders for his work in spirituality, education, social service and women empowerment.
"The fifth spiritual leader in Supreme Lord Shree Swaminarayan’s divine lineage, successor of Gurudev Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa, and current Acharya of Shree Swaminarayan Gadi, His Divine Holiness Shree Purushottampriyadasji Swamishree Maharaj has departed from this mortal world on Thursday 16 July 2020 (Samvat 2076 Ashadh Vad 11)" informed the website of the trust.
It added, "Let us pray to the supreme Lord Shree Swaminarayan, Jeevanpran Shree Abji Bapashree, Gurudev Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa and Acharya Swamishree Maharaj that they bestow divine strength, wisdom and courage to accept His will."
Shree Jitendriyapriyadasji Swami has been appinted as His spiritual successor by the temple trust.
The teachings of supreme Lord Shree Swaminarayan brought a 'revival of central Hindu practices of dharma, ahimsa and brahmacharya' which 'draw authority from the sacred Vedic scriptures by Ved Vyas.'
