The Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciFLO) service of Chile has listed the paper of Dr Lalit Inshore “ Girls, women in science and technology education” published in MeriNews portal in 2008 for research work on gender issues related to STEM education. It has been reported that his work has been quoted in the “Journal of Technology Management & Innovation” (see inset visual).
Dr Kishore, currently with Plenum School, Himachal Pradesh, is an advocate of action research and holds, “Action research pertains to researching own actions to improve one’s own profession practice objectively. However, in collaborative learning processes and collective social action at grassroots level, collective and participatory actions by involving women have been suggested for social transformation and affect changes to make own practices more equitable, inclusive and empowering which is called Feminist Participatory Action Research (FPAR).”
Here are his ABCs of the FPAR.
A: Amplification and inclusion of girls’ and women’s voices and their articulation in action research
B: Building action research environment leading collective action leading to self-transformation and social transformation as end-points of research
C: Carrying out intersectional approach to action research for collective ownership and empowerment
D: Devising ways and means as structural changes in power sharing as outcomes of research
E: Emphasizing common concerns, collaboration, solidarity and empowermeant of participant in action research
In order to effectively teach science subjects including mathematics to girls, we need to make a shift toward cooperative and collaborative classroom setting and explore the range of study skills and careers options for young girls in STEM areas, advises Kishore.
