B: Blending of appropriate content related cluster of words to create micro and nano poems keeping in view the language art elements to create a rhythm and rendering them with pitch manipulation

C: Combining musical intelligence and verbal-linguistic intelligence by non-music use of music

D: Deploying relevant music elements for literacy skills for cognitive, non-cognitive and creativity gains by innovative and integrated interventions

E: Emphasising, rhythm skills such as rapping, spoken-word art, crooning and classical vocal music improvisations using the textual material to musicalize it

Abstract

Some studies reveal that phonological awareness of vowel sounds in the beginning of the words and within the words containing consonants along with vocal music improves significantly the sight vocabulary and development of active memory training improves phonological processing of words.  The National Education Policy 2020 of India and National Curriculum Framework 2023 insist that the language learning should be linked to country’s cultural context. Keeping these in view, a lesson study that lasted on the grade 1 students (N=24, six-groups of four each, age: 5-6 years) in a active controlled situation in rural school after they had learned the alphabet of Hindi to find the effect of the designed lesson on ‘a’ sound that lasted three classroom- sessions each of 40 minutes duration. For the intervention with three or more alphabet-sound beginning words and six-word poems with a given vowel sounds with consonants in the word were chosen from the words from the Bhagavad Gita in which the many state governments are trying to revive the interest of school children in scripture. The adapted Indian classical ‘bol alaap cum bandish’ style of singing the micro-poems was chosen since allows improvisation in singing with phonological awareness. The other material for sight vocabulary and association with phonics was the flash cards and board-games of six chosen words. The method was significantly liked by children on non-parametric test with one degree of freedom.
