Kisan Diwas: Link observance to learning in schools through slogan writing skills development

Updated: Dec 24, 2020

In India, Kisan Diwas (December 23) is being observed amid the COVID-19 crisis and farmers' protest against the three farm bills passed by the current government.

The day is celebrated on the birthday of the fifth Indian PM Choudhary Charan Singh who had also been a farmer leader. The day is meant to celebrate the contribution of farmers in the development of the nation.

Earlier, in many schools, slogan writing skills was taught and competitions held for cultural linkage of the observance to the learning.

Tips for slogan writing are as follows.

  • Collate and write down as many ideas as possible to construct your slogan

  • State a contribution of farmers or the benefits of farming within the slogan in your slogan.

  • Keep it precise and meaningful to be aligned with a related picture, logo or sketch

Some sample slogans

  • Hail Farmers: They feed the world

  • My tribute to farmers: I am indebted for toil to feed me

  • Farmers! Be alert and aware! Don’t let powers that be to Pull The Wool Over Your Eyes

  • Bow to farmers! They toil and tend!

  • Make farming sustainable: Give the grower and producer the best returns!

In a few countries, working in defence and at farms before taking up a job is compulsory to create love for the country

Jai Jawan! Jai Kisan!

As a teacher, when, I made the stick drawing of farmers toiling and slogging in fields in sun, rain and cold and wrote slogans, I contributed to enhancement of my verbal, visual and emotional intelligence.
